exclude_list on Linux client breaks Lotus Notes backups

I added an exclude_list to my Linux Lotus Domino servers as described on page 48 of the agent Admin Guide for purposes of running a file system backup on the Domino server without backing up the databases already being backed up by the Lotus Notes policy.

When I did this the Lotus Notes policy failed to backup anything.  From what I have read the exclude_list is supposed to be ignored by the Lotus Notes policy.  Why would this not be happening?

You can name a exclude_list so it only apply for a single policy. For unix you would rename exclude_list to exclude_list.{policy_name}  e.g exclude_list.UNIX_FS. The exclude list is now ignored by the Lotous backup's, but read and honnored by file system backup made by policy UNIX_FS.

As soon as I saw your explanation I remembered this from my NetBackup training...from 2002.  I was in a pure Windows shop then so didn't need the Linux method.  I also got corroboration of you guidance from a sysadmin in a sister university across town shortly after reading your advice.

Thanks.
