I'm pretty furious with Symantec right now, so this post will amount to a rant.
I've been struggling to do a P2V restore from BESR 8.5. I've followed the P2V2P instructional video posted on the Symantec site:
http://www.symantec.com/connect/videos/backup-exec-system-recovery-85-p2v2p-use-case
4 hours later, I had a converted VMDK image to use in my VM. The fist time I tried to run the VMWare Virtual Machine, I was shown a WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY boot screen. This came as a surprise, because in the VM Conversion process, I left the default "Run Windows Mini Setup" option checked. Starting Windows in the VM resulted in a bluescreen (0x0000007B), which wasn't surprising seeing as how the VM hardware wasn't detected.
I deleted the VM, copied the VMDK again, and somehow it launched into setup this time around. Not sure what I did differently for it to run the setup, so I'll move on to the next issue. During the mini setup, it gave me an "unknown error" and went into a reboot loop. I'm currently trying to reproduce these issues so as better able to report them.
Now, good luck trying to contact support:
- In the email support, you're required to select a product. Backup Exec is listed, but BESR is not an option (http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/email_forms/intro_emailsup.asp).
- In the application itself, HELP -> SEND FEEDBACK returns a 404 error while trying to post. (Good example of how much Symantec wants to hear from its customers)
Trying the phone route next if I can dig up my support ID... sigh...
