I have BackupExec for Windows Server 9.0 on my server and want to backup to an external tape drive on another computer. Can this be done?

Nope

The backup device must be physically connected to the Media server.

Hi,

It is not possible to access remote backup device using Backup Exec. Currently, Backup Exec does not support accessing a backup device attached to remote server. A backup device has to be connected locally.
If you need to perform the backup of the remote server you can use remote agent!
