Drop in compression ratio

We are using BE 12.0 rev 1364 SP4 + Hotfix 312831.  Up until 12/3/09 we were consistently getting compression ratios between 1.3:1 and 1.4:1.  Starting on 12/4/09 the compression dropped on all backups tapes to either 1:1 or 1.1:1 causing the bcakup to need a second tape.  I can't find anything on the server or in BE that happened on 12/3 or 12/4 that would cause this.  I have verified that harware compression is enabled on the drive and in all backup jobs.  Has anybody else experienced this?

 Data changes, it grows, it shrinks, it's in flux all the time....  

If compression is on, there isn't much of anything you can do.  Not everything is compressionable or as much as we hope for it to be.

It could be something as simple as a bunch of JPG's or MP3's were added to your backup routine.
