backup exec linux agent version 12 ( RALUS ) connection lost during backup

environment

window 2003 R2 sp2 ==> backup exec window server 12 sp1 ( live up to date )

redhat es version 4 64 bit ==> backup exec agent  12 ( version 12.0.1364.0 ) same with backup exec window server

problem :

backup exec linux agent service die , after error msg at /var/log/messages 

Aug  5 02:56:43 klsvr002 kernel: beremote[24496]: segfault at 0000007300000079 rip 0000003173f07c3c rsp 00000000431fe488 error 4

and the terminal also appear this error msg :  netfs*** glic detect *** free ( ) : invalid next size (normal) 0x00000000006851b0***TA 

after the 2 error msg , the backup exec linux agent die , the backup job was fail . the error log at win 2003 ( backup exec server ) as below:

question 

1. the backup exec server 12 got any filename limitation ( eg:- no more than xxxx character )

    ( becoz i observe that my backup failed & agent die during backup long filename { > 100 character} )

2. where to get synmantec tecnical support email  , becoz this product purchase  2 month ago , still valid for support from synmantec ..

hi,

1. There is no limitation limitation for backup exec 12 for file name characters.

2. You can login to https://mysupport.symantec.com/index.html to create a new case for support from Symantec.

Now, looking at this issue, please follow this:

• Go to linux box and make sure the VRTSralus service is stopped.
• Run the command: /opt/VRTSralus/bin/beremote --log-file-auto
• Run the backup again from Backup Exec console.
• As soon as the backup fails, go to the linux box and post the contents of the file <servername>-beremote00**.log file under the folder /var/VRTSralus.

Hi,

There is no  limitation with BE12 regarding filename characters.

Now if your jobs are failing continuously then make sure that the firewall on your linux box is not enabled. You can manually stop the service of iptables by running: service iptables stop

This iptables restricts backup exec to backup the data and crashes the agent service on the linus box.
