Migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010

I had a few questions on moving from an Exchange 2007 server to Exchange 2010. I have read through the white paper explaining this, but needed some further clarification. We are currently running Enterprise Vault 9 and archiving from Exchange 2007. We will be slowly migrating users to Exchange 2010.

1. We currently have one vault service account. Can this be moved to the Exchange 2010 server and still be used for both environments (Exchange 2007 and 2010)?

2. Is a separate journal mailbox account needed for Exchange 2010? And if so, once we have moved completely to Exchange 2010, will there be two journal mailboxes? One with e-mails archived in Exchange 2007 and on current mailbox with anything sent to the Exchange 2010 mailbox?

3. What is the process for moving a users mailbox from Exchange 2007 to 2010? Does anything specific need to be done with the mailbox archive?

Sorry, I realize this is quite a few questions, but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

here you go.

1.  Yes, you need to move the vault service account mailbox over.  Exchange 2007 archiving will not be affected.  Pay attention to the instructions for setting up the system mailbox for Exchange 2010, especially if you have DAG set up.  In the FAQ it says this: -    The existing Vault Service account can be used for both Exchange environments but will need to be mail enabled (if not already) and that mailbox should be hosted in the Exchange 2010 environment. Once this has been done the Powershell scripts to disable throttling can be run against the account.

2. You can continue to send all the journal mail to your existing journal mailbox on Exchange 2007 server and then when all the users are migrated create a new journal mailbox on Exchange 2010 and start using that one, whatever is easiest for you.  The new journal mailbox can point to the existing journal archive.

This would be a good read for you http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998649.aspx.

3. No, nothing special needs to be done with the archive, it should pick up just fine.

thanks for the respone. in regards to the journal mailbox, if I continue to use the journal mailbox in Exchange 2007 while migrating users, won't that only journal mail being directed to mailboxes in the Exchange 2007 environment?

Not if you set the journal rules for users on the Exchange 2010 server to use that journal mailbox.
