Is it possible to configure the Enterprise Vault so that users can only see the last 6-months of mail although there may be older mail in their archive? We are considering a global setting for security reasons that would limit what users could see in their archive without us actually deleting the older mail we do not want them to see. Is is possible?

really what should be done is use journaling to archive all messages and then archive users mailboxes with a 6 months retention, thats all you can do

You have an option to delete EV shortcut from the mailbox which are six months old. This way user cannot access the emails older than six month, but they still can search for the item in the browser search , archive explorer etc. There is no way you can allow user to see only the altest six months archvied data. You can either allow user to access all the data or access nothing at all.

If you *really* need that feature, you could do it trough the API. (Move all messages older 6 Months to a "second" archive, where the User has no access to)
Maybe we can assist you with this, contact us @ http://www.quadrotech-it.com
May I ask however for the reason you want to do this? Maybe JesusWept2's option to use Journaling and delete the stuff from the user's personal archive is also a viable option.
Cheers
