Issue having successful system state restore of Domain controller

Chidobrad

hello people

i am doing a test  disaster recovery scenario from where i have a production domain controller and exchange server (VMs)

Phase1: restore the domain controller to an alternate client

Phase2: Restore the exchange mailbox database to an alternate client

Under Phase1: i tried initiating the restore, from the Netbackup Master server, it showed successful but i realised no files were restored. on the restored server, i saw no restored content eg Active Directory folders etc under Administrator tools.

Question 1: Do i have to make the alternate restore client a Domain controller using DC Promo to be able to view the restored active directory files or do i make a Domain controller after the restore and then reboot?

I need the system state to be successful so i can now proceed with the exchange side of the test restores.

Please i need clues on how to achieve this successful as it doesnt seem to work here. Thanks

I'm not sure if this helps in your case, but workaround of tips 1 in below is worth to try, I think.

Best to use BMR for full system restores.

For DR, why do you need to restore to alternate client?
The assuption is that DR servers will match hostnames of production servers?

In my previous company, we have used this TN to restore the DC after catastrophic hardware failure: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH56473

Please note all pre-reqs and follow steps carefully.
