NOM instalation

Hi,

       In our environment we are using solaris as master server and client. Remote administration consle installed in windows pc. I need to configure NOM. I have studied the guide,It's stating nom mustinstalled in the clinet were netbackup cilent software has installed. Where am I need to install NOM? whether in  my remote administration PC or in solaris clients.

Essentially NOM needs to be installed on a server that has the client software installed (it utilises components thereof) but this server does not necessarily need to be a client.

As well as the NOM Admin Guide which you have already got access to, you may also like to look through the NetBackup Planning and Performance Guide as this has a section on design considerations etc for a NOM server which will depend obviously on the environment you wish to monitor.

A little confusing,
But NOM should be on a server, the guide has a "requirements" matrix to let you know how big that server needs to be based on number of masters, number of jobs........

then you install in a specific sequence,  ICS, client,.....

Hi,

   Am I need to install sybase databse for NOM or the package of NOM itself contains the databse sybase.  Can I change the data base to oracle for NOM.

   How can I verify vxss installed or not? Is vxssat software need to be installed in client,where I am gonna install the NOM or it should be present in the master server.

NOM installation can be a little tricky if you do not follow the seq during installation. I had to redo the installation almost twice before I could get it work..

Seq:

1. NB client
2. Install Symantec Private Branch Exchange and Symantec Product Authentication Service on the NOM server

Also note to install the patch if any before you proceed to step 3

Note: There is no requirement for Symantec Product Authorization Service to be
installed for NOM

3. Install NOM

Install patch if required.

And also ensure that you install the same version of NOM as the version of NB that you are running.. For Eg: If you master server is on 6.5.3 ensure that you have installed 6.5.3 for NOM as well.. some time if there is a difference in version you might get an 404 error when you try to open the console.

Thank u all. Am I need to install the vxss in the cleint server to install nom. We are having one master serrver and three media server with vxss installed. Am I need to install the vxss in the clinet where I am going to install the NOM.
