Netbackup sends an alert at status 12 but activity monitor doesn't have it recorded as anything other than status 0?

Hi.

I'm kind of stumped.

I have been getting these error messages from netbackup created around the times the jobs for this server (let's call it grover). They are status 12.

NetBkup on grover - 12
Description Conversations

Archive on client grover for user root by server mclovin failed.

Status = file open failed.

Policy = Servers-Set3
Schedule = Differential-Inc

File list
---------

However I check the activity monitor logs and only see these (below), and they are reported as status 0.

What am I missing? Is there something I should change to get more information?

Thanks very much for your help.

-Tim

P.S.

Grover is a windows 2000 server.

Is this a backup or an archive?

"Archive on client grover for user root by server mclovin failed. "

Where do these alerts come from?

What version of NBU, O/S etc.

Netbackup 6.5.6

Grover is Windows 2000 server, mclovin is Windows 2003 R2 x64

This alert is one that's emailed out by netbackup (does so for anything above status 0)

This should only be backing up as far as I see.

Something still sounds odd here.

Check that there are no scheduled tasks on that client (Windows Scheduler) just in case someone has done something in the past.

Also setup bpbkar and bpcd logs on it (\veritas\netbackup\logs\bpbkar\ and \bpcd) so that we can see more of what it is doing

Hm... no scheduled tasks in Windows for either server.

OK - lets see the logs - set one up for bpbackup as well just in case

Ah yes, I see. You have to run the mklogdir.bat file to create the logs folders... interesting how they are not there by default. I'll see how logs from tonight work next week.

Actually, if there anything else special I have to do to set up the logs other than ran the batch file? Just making sure.

If you use mklogdir.bat it makes all folders so you may well see you disk space gets used up rather quickly!

For many fodlers you will need to take NetBackup down to delete them again - do be careful - i have seen people run out of disk space (very bad for the catalog!) after doing this

For specific ones just create a folder under the logs directory named after the process

Any update on this one please - do you have the logs from the client for us to look at yet?
