RMAN error

Hi,

I just configured script based Rman hot backup and am getting some error like (backup failed to backup the requested file code(6)), like this and below i copied the bphdb log please help on this.

Check the RMAN Script permissions and confirm back

/usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/samples/rman/hot_database_backup_TATAELXSI.sh

to ensure they are "owner oracle  group dba   rwxr-xr-x"

The script running the backup has not't the right permissions. The script must have execute permissions for the oracle group (usually dba). Change the rights using the chmod. 

# chown root:dba  hot_database_backup_TATAELXSI.sh

# chmod g=rx hot_database_backup_TATAELXSI.sh

Possible problem with Rman catalog?

Please post your script as well as the rman output. Another log file that will be helpful is dbclient. Ensure that the log folder exists on the client with 777 permission.

This failure is due to the lack of the proper environment variables. Possibly the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not set or not set correctly.

I suppose that su command failed with return code 137. Unfortunately your script does not redirect stderr output to log file, so I can not determine why it failed. Edit script to redirect stderr like below. su - $ORACLE_USER -c "$CMD_STR" >> $RMAN_LOG_FILE 2>&1

You need to find out if this section of the script is working:

Log on to the client as root, cd to the script folder and run the script as root. ( ./script-name )

Any errors here?

Next, su - teldb (your Oracle user) and run the script again.

when you cd to /usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/samples/rman and run  ./ORACLE_SCRIPT.sh ?

Have yo tried to run it as root and as user teldb?

Please copy and paste the command plus the output that you get.

Please also verify permissions on rman command  (ls -l /appdb1/app/oracle/product/10.2/bin/rman).

The output that you've posted is the contents of the folder.

Where is the RMAN binary? The variable in the script :

RMAN=$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman

should be the RMAN binary/command.

"Permission Denied" must occured at line 43.

You run the script by teldb user, right? Script log file is owned by root, so teldb user cannot remove it, and rm command failed with "Permission Denied" error.

Could you try to run the script by root user, and post whole output?

By the way, why don't you configure oracle backup with template?
