The operators can´t expire media, only the root user can doing it.

You need to tell us which operating system on your master, which OS version, Where and how are they trying to expire, if VxSS is installed and configured or if you rely on standard OS permissions.

More concerning than all of the above - WHY do operators need to expire tapes?
Expiration dates/retention levels are based on business requirements and tapes need to be kept until all the images have naturally expired.

If you allow operators to expire tapes, how will you prevent them from 'accidentally' expiring the wrong media id?

What happens if a tired or slightly dyslexic operator accidentally swop numbers around and critical data gets overwritten as a result?

If you're using VxSS and if you're in group NBU_Security_Admin, you can always change the access level of other groups (such as NBU_Operator etc.). By then you can grant "media expiration" to your operator.

One concern is what Marianne commented, is it wise/worth to give out such a powerful access?
