BMR can do P2P, P2V, V2V (diff V than orig), V2P all combinations. This is automatically supported for windows only through BMR dissimilar system restore functionality. In short source and target can be different.

The new P2V functionality launched in 7.6 release, simplifies traditional BMR P2V method by giving a simple wizard based P2V conversion. Importantly this new P2V is offline restore where old BMR P2V required boot server, SRT and manual VM boot over SRT (restore env) etc. Here once pre-req config is set, user just needs to select a backup out of which VM needs to be created, run a simple wizard and you get a running VM on intended hypervisor server.

Thanks.

There is no P2V or V2P functionality in NBU (yet) as in Backup Exec.

Best will be to install OS and NBU on physical machine, then restore data by selecting files/folders from Virtual machine backup and select physical machine as destination.

Hi Marianne,

Thanks for the reply.

I can see the files and folders by changing the tye to flashbackup-windows.

We have installed NBU on the destination Client.

is it possible to do full system restore.

My concern is shadow copy and system state is missing .

Could you please advice.

Thanks,

You can possibly try this TN:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH56473

I am not aware of any other method besides BMR.

This method is dicussed in this forum post: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/full-system-restore-without-bmr-protection

Marianne-

Have you seen this? P2V functionality was introduced in NBU 7.6.

Correct - P2V is for NBU 7.6 where physical machine was backed up with BMR.

In this case, the OP selected 'NBU 7.1 and earlier' as NBU version, does not use BMR and needs V2P from VMware backup.
