No. Index number is assigned in the order in which drives are added. tpconfig -l does not show drive serial number. Please show us your output and help us understand what your issue is.

may be you would needs to expand your question more.

index id is the one that assing for each drive.. and its unique, 0 is only for the first drive.. 

Drive index is assing by Netbackup

Serail number is hardware serail number.

if I want my drive serial number 5 to be index 0 then what to do?
