The fact that you have VTL in your environment means that you have Enterprise Disk license, right?
If so, you have hopefully configured disk storage as Advanced disk and not Basic disk?
VTL and Advanced disk can be duplicated using Storage Lifecycle Policies. (No additional licensing needed.)
The backup and duplication destination is configured in the SLP and policy STU is then replaced with the SLP. Backup and duplication destination can have different retention levels.
Duplications are automated this way and if the duplication fails for any reason, it will be retried until successful.
See chapter 14 of NBU Admin Guide I: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5159
The alternative is NetBackup Vault option (separately licensed).
See http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5192
Or else your own bpduplicate scripts....

Thank you marrianne,
you explanation for disk backup, but what about tape media backup.

What Marianne is saying is create and SLP to duplicate from your disk storage to your tape media storage unit.

i mean from media tape to media tape

SLP supports tape to tape by default.
I only pointed out disk because Basic Disk is not supported with SLP.
See the section in Admin Guide I as per my previous post.

Just to back up everyone else - SLPs are the way to go - unless your backups have already run in which case you will need to duplicate them manually via the Catalog section of the admin console
Also note that once you start to use SLPs that the retention periods in schedules no longer have any meansing and all retentions are determined by the SLP itself
As such you will not only need SLPs for disk to VTL and VTL to Tape but also per retention period
So you may end up with:
DISK_TO_VTL_SLP_DAILY
DISK_TO_VTL_SLP_WEEKLY
DISK_TO_VTL_SLP_MONTHLY
VTL_TO_TAPE_SLP_DAILY
VTL_TO_TAPE_SLP_WEEKLY
VTL_TO_TAPE_SLP_MONTHLY
Hope this makes sense! Once you have these set the storage destination in the policy attributes to use the Weekly SLP and then on the Daily Schedule override it to use the Daily SLP and on the Monthly Schedule override it to use the Monthly SLP
Sounds complicated but works great!
Hope this helps
