Hello,
Does Symantec have a guide for creating and maintaining Storage Lifecycle Management Policies? I do not see any reference to them in the regular admin guide, and can not find a SLP guide anywhere.
Currently, I back up data to an EMC DataDomain, and I am trying to utilize DD Boost in an optimized duplication job. Is this simple as creating a "backup" that refers to the backup I have already done, and the created a "Duplication" line that points to where I would like the duplication to be written to? When does this take affect and actualy run? I run the nbstlutil -report command, but see nothing needs to be copied...
Hoping some sort of guide can clear up the questions around how to perform this duplication operation.
Thanks!

Best practices for using Storage Lifecycle Policies and Auto Image Replication in NetBackup 7.1
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH153154
The above Best Practice got me going when we started using SLP in 6.5.x
SLP ultra short:
First you create a Storage Lifecycle Policy (SLP) where you define when and what happen to a backup. In the policy configuration you point a schedule (or more) to a SLP instead of a storage unit. Storage Lifecycle Policy will then start doing their magic.

Thanks so much! I had found the best practice guide, although I never saw the part about selecting it in a new policy for the storage unit. Your "SLP Ultra Short" set me straight... thanks so much!

I realize that this post is already solved, but in addition to Nicolai's excellent advice -
SLP 'basics' can be found in section 3, chapter 14 of Admin Guide I:
NetBackup Administrator's Guide for UNIX and Linux, Volume I http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5157
NetBackup Administrator's Guide for Windows, Volume I http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5159
Also bear in mind that retention levels are specified in SLP's. So, if you want different retentions for daily, weekly, monthly, etc, you need to create different SLP's and override policy STU in the schedules.

Thank you very much Marianne, that helps a lot.

Following on from the momentus posts from both Nicolai and Marianne, here is a liitle gift ...
This is an SLP chetsheet I and a colleague created, it contains some useful commands, details of required logs for SLP issues, and a list of technotes.
