SFHA Upgrade on Solaris with local zones on vxvm volumes

Hello,

We are trying to upgrade from SFHA 5.0mp1 to SFHA 5.0mp3 on Solaris 10.  The environment consists of a two node cluster where the local zones and the applications running in them are controlled from VCS, and the zone root filesystems reside on volume manager volumes.

The installmp script calls for all vxvm volumes to be stopped before the upgrade is performed.  Unfortunately, it then fails when patchadd tries to start the local zones to apply patches in them.  Clearly they can't start because the vxvm volumes that their root filesystems would be mounted on are stopped.

Is there a recommended procedure for upgrades in this environment?  I am struggling to see the right way to do this.

Thanks,

Leigh.

you may try out live upgrade

may refer to following sun docs

upgrading with non-global zones:

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/821-0441/gdkbx?l=en&a=view

also see this for all type of live upgrades:

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/821-0441/emyaq?l=en&n=1&a=view

I presume this needs to be worked out by reinstalling the packages... never tried this method though.. but thinking of following:

-- unmount the zones

-- remove the VRTSvxvm package

-- readd the VRTSvxvm package from MP3 bundle thus VRTSvxvm will be upgraded in global zone..

-- boot the zone now & run a pkgadd again for VRTSvxvm, this should detect the lesser version on local zone & thus call for upgrade..

I would recommend to try this on a test bed first since I haven't tried that before..
