Backup created on ver 9.x can it be read on 10.x?

I am trying to read some OLD backup tapes created on backup exec ver 9, but I only have backup 10. Will this work? I am getting unreadable media, or some fashion on that error. i tried reading in NTbackup and same error.

Yes you can use that tape with version 10d. you will first need to inventory the tape and then catalog it after which you should be able to see your backup.

Hi arnie,

I know this is possible between Backup Exec 9 and earlier versions, so there shouldn't be any issue with restoring BE 9 data using BE 10.
Best bet is to download the Backup Exec 10 Admin Guide, which you can get on the link below:

THere should be a section in it detailing how to do the restore, and what requirements are needed.

Ok thanks, I did inventory it then attempted to catalogue and that is where it fails (consistantly), my guess is the tapes are shot? They are old.
