Exchange DAG and EV v11 system mailboxes

codeunit
Level 3

Hello guys,

I just want to make sure if I am thinking correctly in regards EV v11 system mailboxes for Exchange 2010 DAG.
If someone could confirm or advise - I'd much apreciated.

Please find Exchange 2010 DAG design in our environment below. I know we need to have 10x system mailboxes for each Mailbox archiving server for EV v11.

What is the best way to configure that? Place system mailboxes on active DBs (DB01-DB05) on the DC4EXMB-01/05, fail-over to BC4-EXMB-06/10 and create system mailboxes for these servers as well?

ideally you would create a system mailbox for each Exchange server and pin them to a database that isnt part of the DAG so it doesnt get moved around. doing it that way will guarnatee the best possible outcome for you especially if you have a dynamic environment.

You dont "need" a system mailbox for each mailbox server. From page 62 of the Installing and Configuring guide:

If you use database availability groups (DAGs) in your Exchange environment,
you must create each Enterprise Vault system mailbox in a database that is
replicated across the DAG.

Because of you database layout in your DAG, you'll need a few system mailboxes to associate with the appropriate Enterprise Vault tasks, but you certainly do not need 10 different system mailboxes.
