Netbackup 6.0 MP4 - Alert 800 All available drives are down

netbackuptt
Not applicable

Hi,

I use NB 6.0MP4 in conjuction with a Dell PV132T tape library (with two tape drives). Even so often the drives, either 1 or both, would go into a down state resulting in error 800. This may occur if a tape fails to eject or gets stuck in the picker. I've tried to address this issue with both symantec support and dell with regards to the tape movement issues but to no avail.

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and what you did to address. Thanks.

If a tape get stuck in the picker it's normal procedure for Netbackup to down the drive. There is not much Symantec support can do to help you. They can't fix hardware errors with software.

If the picker causes too many trouble and it's under hardware maintenance Dell should do something about it. Check firmware on both the picker and tape drives are up to date. If they wont or can't replace the entire picker.

PS: Netbackup 6.0 has gone out of support loooong time ago. It's really time to upgrade.

Call the hardware vendor out to fix these problems.

NetBackup 6.0 is woefully out of date but that has nothing to do with this trouble.

Hello Netbackuptt-

Error code 800 - NBPEM is unable to get resource from nbrb.. Seems drive down issue..Check bptm logs prior to 800 code when drive went down... this must having info why drive went down..

Drive down-- unable to mount media, media position error, media stuck in drive,,

So does work with drive seems some hardware issue either with Drive or with Tape.

If this with a specified media then replace this and try with other Media...this could be possible more than one media or drive is affected..

Cheek on library update driver and firmware... or if necessary replace the drive...
