Unable to configure New drives in IBM library

Hi ,

We are facing issue regarding drive addition from netbackup end. We have tried 4 times but failed everytime.

Kindly find the steps which we followed till now.

1) We zoned the 6 drives on media server(Robot Control Host) in IBM TS3580 library.

2) Then we deleted all the drives from netabckup end and executed sgbuild on the server.

3) After we tried to configure we are getting below error .

illegal drive type in robot and all new drives are showing yes,see properties.

Master and Media Server : Solais  10

NBU Version :- 7.5.0.4

Any suggestion would be helpful.

do you have any tapes stuck in the tape drives?

 what are the tape Drives that you are using? are they LTO 5?

could you show us the output of scan command from the robot contorol host?

Seems the robot itself is reporting the 'ilegal drive' message.

Please show us output of '/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/scan' on the media server(Robot Control Host).

No we have taken the downtime and cleared all the backups and ejected all the medias from the drives.

Can you see the new drives in the list of drives reported by this robot in above scan output?
How many drives in total in this robot? Is 15 correct?

Yes , 15 drives are correct including 6 new drives.

But in scan output there serial numbers which are showing twice.

That is why 'illegal drive' message is seen in the device config wizard.

The output from scan is coming from the robot itself.

You need to check robot config - display console and/or web interface.

I have never worked with IBM robots except where a hardware engineer has done the installation/config and OS can see devices correctly. I don't know what exactly is necessary on your robot model to make the robot see new drives correctly. 
Best to get the hardware engineer back on site or find documentation for the robot.

Your robot will either have a display console on the front of the library or else have a web inteface where you connect to a URL to view robot config - ask hardware engineer or check your robot documentation.

A power cycle is normally necessary (on robots where I have been involved) to make robot see new drives correctly. Especially where existing drives have been moved around along with installation of new ones.

We were wating for downtime and today we have configured the drives with robot. OS team resolved the duplicate seriel nos. issue and after that , we are able to configure the drives successfully.

1 If you new add tape dirves to the library,please note you use library web console assign the tape drives to logical tape library.

2 you can let the os guy to make sure solaris can get all the tape drives.

Therefore it is reasonable to suggest they don't need cleaning.

'Cleaning drives' should not be an instant answer for a drive issue.
