A file system is assigned a specific size as soon as it is created. However, the file system may become too small or too large as changes in file system usage take place over time. For example, when you add or grow storage LUNs, more storage is available to expand the file system. The storage size might also change when you migrate to a different array using Array Migration or you migrate to thin provisioning.
The vxresize command enables you to grow or shrink the Veritas File System (VxFS) file system, as well as the volume that contains it. The vxresize command guarantees that the file system shrinks or grows along with the volume.
The vxresize command accepts the new length or change in length, and other inputs including vxassist command storage allocation specifications and the -b option for running in the background.
