Recovery Using An External USB Sata Drive

I am using BackupExec System Recovery 8.0.1 and am trying to restore my computer from an externally attached USB SATA Drive. However, the drive is not recognized in the restore utility, and is not listed using the Diskpart utility.

Can anyone suggest how to recognize this drive during the recovery process?

If you are referring to the external USB hard disk drive, and not the internal drive of the system you want to restore to, and you have tried the RESCAN option within diskpart and it still is not listed, then be sure of the following is true: 

-         The drive is not connected to a USB hub

-         That more then one USB port on the system was tried.

-         That a docking station or port -replicator is not being used to see the drive.

-         The drive can be seen on other system both in windows and as well as in the recovery environment.

-         The drive is long formatted (i.e. verses using the quick format) to the NTFS file system using Windows default settings.
