How to configure shared tape drives in between three media servers

Hi,

We do have new netbackup 7.1 infrastructure with one master & three file servers (with huge data).

We do have one new HP MSL FC tape library with 4 tape drives, which are currently zoned with netbackup master server only.

We have asked our SAN Team to zone all these 4 tape drives with 3 file servers also.

Once all these 4 tape drives will be available in 1 netbackup master server & in 3 file media servers, then how to configure them in netbackup.

We have procured netbackup SSO (Shared Storage Option) license.

Thanks

Singh

once all tape drives can be seen on all media servers

then you can use the gui wizard  (which for some reason I have never been able to get it to work right)

as you say the tape drives are already on the master

then just open each tape drive.

click add

choose one of the new media servers

click browse

it should then show you the tape drive of the same serial number on that media server

choose it

ok

keep doing the adds until all the new media servers are listed.

then ok on out

it will ask if you want to bounce the media services on the servers.

say yes on the first one and make sure that that drive now shows all the media servers attached to it.

then do the other 3 drives and wait till the 3ed one before you do the bounce again.

then you need to create storage units for each media server and put those in the policies.

used to give me fits in older versions but since 6.5 it works pretty well!

Hi

You also need to add the SSO license on each Media Server locally to enable this - after that you can use the Wizard in the GUI which should do everything else for you and will also create the new storage units

If you need to limit the number of drives each server actually used then just reduce the number of drive in each storage unit so that rather than one server using all 4 drives it only uses two for example - it will still have access to all four so can use any two of the four in this situation

Hope this helps
